2008 Southwark Book Award
After months of preparation and hard work, Siobhan Dowd's The London Eye Mystery won the 2008 Southwark Book Award. Winning pupils from the 18 participating schools were treated to a special prize - a ride on the real London Eye itself, (courtesy of British Airways). The students were greeted by local MP, Simon Hughes, who spoke of his enthusiasm for reading, and encouraged them to find 3 good books to read on their holidays! They were also given a copy of 'The London Eye', and were presented with a 'goody bag' from the publisher, Random House Children's Books. For more information www.southwarkbookaward.org.uk

Here Lies Arthur won the CILIP Carnegie Medal, and Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears by Emily Gravett has won the Kate Greenaway Medal.

Booktrust 2007 Teenage Prize Winner Announced
Marcus Sedgwick has won the 2007 Booktrust Teenage Prize for My Swordhand is Singing, an original interpretation of the timelessly fascinating vampire myth, and a story of father and son.. The shortlist can be seen here.

The MAN Booker Prize 2007 Winner is Announced
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. This year's winner is The Gathering by Anne Enright. The nine surviving children of the Hegarty clan gather in Dublin for the wake of their wayward brother Liam. It wasn't the drink that killed him - although that certainly helped - it was what happened to him as a boy in his grandmother's house, in the winter of 1968.

2007 Richard & Judy Best Childrens Books
Channel 4 is screening a special series of programmes on child literacy during October 2007. As part of this heavily publicised campaign, there will be a children’s books special of the Richard & Judy book club. The longlist contains nineteen titles, of which eight will be highlighted in the programme across four age groups: 5+, 7+, 9+ and teen. The titles are not by best selling authors and are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, including Someone Bigger by Jonathan Emmett, and Finding Violet Park by Jenny Valentine.

We recently held a ‘Strawberries and Cream’ tea in the showroom, giving customers an opportunity to meet 4 children’s authors and talk to them about their work and methods.
